udon

whole country
celebrates
Christmas

from
mid-November

Everyone
talks about
pastries
and parties

and

Christmas trees
and
golden bells

Santa Clauses
and
illuminations
are
everywhere!

On
26th December

Jingle Bells
and
all the
decorations

suddenly
disappear

as
koto music
takes over
and
people
rush out

to buy
rice cakes

no one
anymore
is talking
about
Christmas


instead

people
are busy

making plans
to visit

Shinto shrines
and more
Shinto shrines

all over
Nippon

I'm
living
in two
different
countries

aren't I?

to fight

father

into
my pocket

go out
into
the cold wind

without
knowing
where
to go

a friend's place?

grandma's place?

it's too far

I find
a bread shop
open
and
it looks
warm

so
I
go in

buy
a loaf of
raison bread

The
store woman
says

thank you
with a
big smile

I say
thank you
too

Suddenly
I
notice

my anger
is
gone
